Frequently asked questions about the future vision of The Grove.
Every day, in all spaces, through each season of life, we are joyfully sowing seeds to take root for the Kingdom of God, cultivating community together, and growing a kingdom legacy for generations to come.

General Questions

What is "Roots?"
"Roots" is the vision for the most significant building project in the history of our church, consisting of three primary phases to expand our facilities as we pursue the mission of loving God, loving people, and making disciples of everyone through all seasons of life.

In completing this project, we believe we are joyfully sowing seeds to take root for the Kingdom of God, cultivating community together, and growing a kingdom legacy for generations to come.
What are you asking of me? How can I help?
Pray. Pray for wisdom for our Building Team. Pray for fair pricing and great contractors who can work on our timeline.

Give. This is not just a "good cause." These improvements will enable better environments for our children, students, and adults to grow spiritually while increasing our opportunities for fellowship and discipleship with people in our community looking to explore Christianity or find a new church home.
Is the church taking on debt for this project?
No, at this time the financial approach to this project is one that is phased and cash-based, allowing for development as funds allow. All current plans, phases, and renderings are subject to change in scope and priority based on financial resources, priorities of the congregation, and needs of the church.
How can members get updates on the project?
We have and will continue to communicate about the Roots project through multiple avenues including services, church conferences, prayer events, and digital media like The Grove App and our website. We will update this FAQ regularly and notify the church about these updates.
Who is the best person to contact about the Roots project?
If you have questions about the project, you can Contact Us. We would love to hear from you! Your question will be routed to the appropriate staff member to ensure the best answer, and/or be included in updates to the FAQ.

Project Priorities

What are the phases, timeline, and costs of the project?
In the Roots project, we have three priorities:

1. The Next Generation: More space for kids and students
2. Cultivating Community: Worship Center lobby expansion. New building facade and foundation.
3. Growing for Generations: Connecting our existing buildings with new classrooms and meeting spaces for a unified campus.

All of our project phases align with these three priorities and are subject to change based on the financial resources available and the needs of the church and congregation as the project evolves. By taking this approach, the church can maintain a debt-averse approach to the fulfilling the project vision while prioritizing the needs of the church body.

We will begin by adding new nursery space and kids classrooms on the west side of the North Building along with new playground equipment (16-18 weeks construction time). We'll also be ensuring accessibility for all ages with our first-ever elevator just outside of the Worship Center (8-12 weeks construction time). Additionally, this phase includes field work on the south end of the property to aid in drainage and leveling for better use of our greenspace. Phase 1 opens doors for more families, safer kids ministry, and an inclusive design.
Priority: The Next Generation
• Phase 1 Project Cost: $325K
• Cumulative Roots Project Total: $325K

The next phase is for creating a larger gathering space that unifies our congregation, enhances community, and provides an inviting entry for guests. This phase will help Sundays feel less constricted and midweek ministry feel more connected with a Worship Center lobby expansion, all while laying groundwork for the future with a new building facade and foundation for the final phase of the project.
• Priority: Cultivating Community
• Phase 2 Project Cost: TBD
• Cumulative Roots Project Total: TBD

The final phase of the project will add new classrooms and meeting spaces between our existing buildings for a unified campus, finishing the vision with additional space for discipleship, prayer, and community impact. This is the long-term investment that creates space for future growth and deeper ministry for generations to come.
• Priority: Growing for Generations
• Phase 3 Project Cost: TBD
• Cumulative Roots Project Total: TBD

Project Construction

What architectural firm are we using?
William Boehme & Associates with support from our Building Team, Eric Partridge and Aaron Winn.

Who will be completing the actual construction?
Genesis Construction will serve as the general contractor.
What adjustments will be made to kids spaces?
With additional classroom space, meeting space, playground equipment, and upgraded greenspace, our Grove Kids ministry will be better equipped to serve more children effectively.
What adjustments will be made to adult spaces?
With the addition of a new elevator, all adults will have access to the second floor of the worship center, where the goal is to convert some of the current small classrooms into larger rooms. Additional classroom and meeting space will also be created as part of Phase 3 of the project.
Why are the three phases of this project in their current order of priority?
Need, finances, and practicality. We are called to be the best stewards we can be with all that the Lord gives us; this includes our facilities and our finances. We constantly work to keep ahead of our growth curve to have nessecary space for all ages, and we desire to avoid debt when at all possible.
Why are we expanding so much of the lobby/foyer?
We have worked with the current hallway "funnel" into the Worship Center for about a decade. A huge part of worshipping God together, fostering relationships with others, and growing together as a church body is having a communal space for gathering. The creation of a foyer will allow for the natural building of relationships, increase fellowship and discipleship opportunities, and create a less-intimidating welcome space for guests – all while reducing the potential of crowding or distractions during services.
Are there plans to renovate the Worship Center?
We have made gradual upgrades to the Worship Center overtime as an ongoing project, including new carpet and ceiling insulation, new lighting and sound systems, and a new projection screen. We still plan to make incremental upgrades as part of our annual budget, but our desire is to never hinder or distract our congregation from worship with a major construction.
Will this project help with accessibility at The Grove?
Yes, the goal is for people of all ages and stages of life to have access to our entire facility. The addition of an elevator should make this a reality.

Project GIving

Should I redirect my regular tithes and contributions to the building fund?
No, we are asking that you prayerfully consider giving to the Roots Project in addition to, not instead of, your regular tithes and contributions to our General fund.

The tithe is an everyday act of obedience for followers of Jesus. All that we have, including money, is given to us by God. We recognize this by surrendering part of that back to Him. We do this not out of obligation, but because of our adoration of God Almighty.

For our Roots Project fund, this would be an "above and beyond" gift. As a church, we see the need and value. God puts on our heart how we are to sacrifice and give.
How do I designate my gift?
If you give online through our website, make sure you use the Roots Project Building fund.

If you give by check, please write “Roots” in the memo line.

If you give by an alternative method, please contact our secretary at kathy@thegrovemadison.org so that your gift is designated to the Roots Project Campaign.
Are gifts to the Roots Building Project Campaign tax deductible?
Yes, all gifts to the Roots Campaign are tax deductible charitable contributions, and they will be included on your year-end giving statement.

We are asking you to consider your part in our ongoing story of living beyond ourselves. How will you contribute to this vision?
